“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

Sunday Scripture: The Fool Says, There Is No God

by | Feb 20, 2022 | Sunday Scripture | 4 comments

Here is one that should be required reading for all atheists – including my younger teenage self, way back in the day. This is the entirety of Psalm 14, and it summarises really rather well the major problems with atheism, which are becoming more obvious and evident with every passing day.

14 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
    They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;
    there is none who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man,
    to see if there are any who understand,[a]
    who seek after God.

They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
    there is none who does good,
    not even one.

Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers
    who eat up my people as they eat bread
    and do not call upon the Lord?

There they are in great terror,
    for God is with the generation of the righteous.
You would shame the plans of the poor,
    but[b] the Lord is his refuge.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,
    let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

— Psalm 14:1-7, English Standard Version

And here’s a dose of Scripturally sound doctrine to get your Sunday off to the proper start:

    I want to say thank you for your prayers. It turns out I was having a heart attack, which almost universally kills men in my family at age 50 if extreme lead poisonibng (courtesy of the US military adventurism) does not.

    It’s genetic, small heart arteries, but it was discovered in time. God kept me alive when I should have died, and now I have 4 stents and should live to be 80. I keep in shape but my family genetics sorta suck for men’s hearts)

    I really appreciate the support, and the prayers, more than you can possibly imagine.

        For as long as I have been semi=lurking, every monday’s browser buster has motivated me to put in at least 3 days of lifting heavy shit.

        That exercise made my heart strong enough to survive a week of low-grade heart attack.

        In a very real way, following this site for the last few years saved my life. I am not good at gratitude, but thanks, Didact, How do you thank someone for inadvertently saving your life?

        Buying you a beer if you ever get back to the states feels cheap.

          My friend, I am delighted to see that you are feeling better, and it was my pleasure and privilege to pray for your good health.

          Your words mean a very great deal to me. There are many days when I seriously question what I’m doing here, because my whole life up until this point seems to be one long series of disastrous mistakes. Messages like yours remind me that I add value to people’s lives through what I do, and I thank you for that reminder.

          Stay well, rest, and recover, and remember that we’re all praying for you here. God works through us even when we don’t realise it. With a bit of luck, you’ll have many years left to you yet.
