Seeing as it is the very last day of October, we all know what that means: a bunch of people dressed up like Martin Luther, nailing a list of clear refutations of High Church doctrine to any and every door that they can find.
Oh, wait, you didn’t know it was Reformation Day today?
Yep, it actually is.

Of course, if you are a Catholic, today is “Burn a Heretic Day”, but hey, potato, tomato…
Anyway, the point is that today is one of the silliest days of the year, because it means you will see kids running around dressed up as ghouls and vampires, knocking on people’s doors and begging for things. (Of course, if you say, “trick ‘r’ treat!” in certain neighbourhoods in some Western cities, you might just end up getting a girl named Candy in your sack, but that’s a whole different story.)
It is also the darkest day of the year from a spiritual perspective. I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the day that witches and warlocks – which are absolutely real – use for blood sacrifices and ritual conjurings. It is the day on which the veil between our world and the spiritual realm is at its thinnest, and the day when all manner of misconduct becomes permissible and “right”.
If given a choice, then, I have to say, I would much rather celebrate “Reformation Day”, than Halloween, at least these days.
Actually, we DO have a choice – we could listen to heavy metal instead.
And that, I think, is a righteous way to celebrate.
