My buddy Carey sent me this clip a few hours ago of a lady named Hannah Ford rocking out on the skins, and I have to say, I was pretty impressed:

Damn. She’s good. And that’s not all she can do, either:

Normally I don’t like watching drum solos. Especially not drum solos played by girls– they usually do not have the power or speed to keep up with drum solos by really great male drummers. But a few women do have the sense of rhythm and technical skill and timing required to present a truly enjoyable, non-repetitive, interesting drum solo.

And in this lady’s case, as I said to Carey:

There are a few such women out there who put their looks and rhythmic skills to good use playing drums. Apparently one of the more famous of these is a lady who goes by the moniker “Meytall Cohen”- I ran into her work a couple of weeks ago when I was bored out of my gourd at work and was reduced to surfing YouTube videos to find something to do:

Nice smile, to be sure. But the real test of any drummer, male or female, is how well he or she can keep up with THE MAN- Neil Peart himself:

Yeah. Not bad. Not bad at all. She doesn’t have the sheer power and hard-hitting impact that Neil does- but then Neil stands at over six feet tall and is a very, very strong man.

All of that being said- this being an equal opportunity blog and all (yeah, I know- I couldn’t keep a straight face at that one either), I suppose I should go about presenting some examples of what the dudes can do on the skins. Fair and balanced and all that jazz.
