“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

Happy MAFF NERD day

March 14th of every year is, in theory, “Pi Day”. For the persnickety among us – yours truly VERY much included – it really should be celebrated at about 03:23:53 every March 14th, but I don’t think anyone is particularly interested in eating pie at half past three in the bloody morning.

So we tend to settle for doing things the dorky way instead.

Meanwhile, to keep things a bit more practical and grounded, and to give you an idea of what has been keeping me up at night for the past few days, here is a sort-of-related set of tutorials on how to use Python to do web-scraping. You’re welcome.

Don’t pay attention to any YOOTOOBER teaching you web-scraping, or anything remotely technical, if he has an Indian accent. Chances are pretty high that you won’t be able to understand one damned thing he’s saying – and that his code will actually be completely shit.

It’s not racist if it’s true, y’know. After all:

Here endeth the lesson.

This was always my favorite week of the year. Pie day, Caesar stab day and St. Paddy’s day all in a row. Throw a birthday in that timeline and it’s a great week.
