It won’t take long for one of America’s enemies to shoot that thing down. Given the extreme costs of each fighter, and given that every hour of flying time results in about 100 hours of downtime for maintenance, there is simply no way that these flying turkeys are going to be cost-effective, or any other kind of effective, for that matter.

Also related – legendary defence analyst Pierre Sprey goes off at some length on just how stupid the F-35 really is:

You could argue that many of Mr. Sprey’s arguments are similar to what he said about the F-15 back in the day – and nowadays the F-15 is the world’s preeminent air superiority fighter and interceptor, with something like 108 kills to ZERO losses.

Here’s the thing: despite all the stupid shit attached to it, the F-15 was always designed around very sensible principles. To whit: big engines, big wings, lots of manoeuvrability, plenty of hardpoints for attaching weapons and fuel tanks, and tremendous cockpit visibility for the pilots.

That is EXACTLY what you need for a really great air superiority fighter. Those are the same principles used to design the MiG-29, the Su-27, the Su-35, and these days, the Su-57.

(Call the Soviets what you will – of all of the insults that you could hurl at their military equipment, “crap engineering” was not usually one of them, at least not when it came to fighter aircraft.)

You will notice that of all of those ideas, the only one incorporated into the F-35 is the idea of a really big engine – and it only has one of those engines, which actually makes it quite a big problem for the US Navy. The Navy has learned, through long and often bitter experience, that having two jet engines in an airframe tends to lead to longer pilot life expectancies, for the very obvious reason that if one engine fails, the other one gets you back home to your carrier.

The F-35 is badly designed, stupidly overpriced, based on idiotic principles, and totally useless for EVERY SINGLE ONE of the missions that it is supposed to perform. And it has cost, on the hoof, over a TRILLION DOLLARS to manufacture.

If ever you needed evidence that the USA is a dying empire, that, right there, is all you need.

Here’s a story to make a believer out of you:

I was listening to that very same VOLBEAT song above, which is probably the best song that they have ever written. Just as Poulsen was singing that line about “The eagle of kings wears my father’s soul” – an eagle flew right past my window.

Make no mistake, brothers – Our Lord is real, and He loves us very, very much. And from time to time, He sends us signs that He is out there, watching out for each and every one of us.
