It is Monday, and for me a rather annoying one, coming as it does after a solid holiday spent in foreign lands. I got back Friday afternoon, and spent much of the weekend simply resting and doing very little of note – which is my default to begin with, admittedly. But then Monday arrived like a dead duck on the doorstep, and honestly, it is something I could do without.
Fortunately for all of us, the Great Mondaydact Browser Cruncher is here to save us all from boredom and strife.
Speaking of strife, Ornj Boi’s gambles in the Persian Gulf have backfired spectacularly, with the Houthis now capturing the entire western coast of Yemen, thereby shutting down the Red Sea transport route for Saudi oil. With the Persian Gulf now closed and blockaded (twice over), the Red Sea route in serious danger, and the Saudi pumping stations along the east-west pipeline damaged by Houthi strikes, crude oil prices are shooting up rapidly.
This also means that distillate prices are going up – and worst of all, it means diesel prices are skyrocketing.
To understand why this is a problem, you have to understand that diesel is literally THE fuel of a modern industrial economy. Everything of consequence depends on it as an input.
So let’s start off the day by understanding precisely that:
