“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”
Today is Pi Day, and that will mean precisely NOTHING to the 99.14159265897% of you who are not, for some strange reason, tickled by numerological nitwittery, the way maths majors (like me) are. Of course, I can hardly blame you for this. Irrational constants like π or e are only of interest to people who have a screw or three loose.
Which, if you think about it, is a rather good summation of the characteristics of your average mathematician.
That being said – happy Pi Day. Have some pie to celebrate.
