“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

‘Tis the season…

… to lift a merry middle finger to political correctness, and say exactly what we think and what we mean – which is: HAPPY CHRISTMAS. None of that namby-pamby politically correct “Season’s Greetings” pigswill, none of that diverse “Kwanzaa” garbage, and most ASSUREDLY no “winter solstice wishes” – we don’t do neo-pagan LARPing around here, we do CHRISTIANITY. And that means, CHRISTMAS.

We don’t even do Festivus:

Though, I have to admit, as alternative holidays go, that one is actually kind of funny.

Now, technically, it’s not Christmas YET. We’ve got a few hours before we get to celebrate the birth of Our Lord and Saviour. As I have said before, in some ways, Christmas Eve is even better than Christmas Day itself – all is quiet and still, so that we can focus on the meaning of the day itself.

And what, exactly, does the day mean? Well, as the Good Book says:

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ[e] took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed[f] to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

— Matthew 1:18-21, English Standard Version

Christmas Day is about the fulfilment of God’s promise to Mankind – to save us from ourselves, our sins, and our rebellion against Him. You see this all throughout the Bible. I decided to take Dr. James Tour‘s advice and read through the Bible and meditate on it, either during the day or just before I sleep. Going through the Book of Exodus, you see in just about every chapter a hint of God’s promise to His Creation, that He will save us from ourselves.

Two thousand years ago, He made good on His promise, in the form of a tiny infant, born in a manger in Bethlehem.

Our God humbled Himself and came down to Earth, to remind us of just who and what He is – and most of all, to bring us the great gift of PEACE.

Let us pray, therefore, for peace – within ourselves, between us and our brothers and friends, between nations, and most of all, between us and Our Lord:

Let us spend this time during Christmas contemplating our own lives, and how we may best serve the Lord our God. He says it Himself throughout the Bible – He desires mercy, not sacrifice, and faith through devotion, not blind obedience from fear.

Brothers and sisters, it only remains for me to wish you and yours a very happy and peaceful Christmas with your family and loved ones. And before we wrap up here, let us have some mood music:

You didn’t think I’d go without metalising it, did you?

    Hark! the herald angels sing:
    “Glory to the new-born king!”
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
    God and sinners, reconciled.
