Statement from R. Lee Ermey’s long time manager, Bill Rogin:
It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
“Gunny” really was a lot of fun to watch on screen – whether as a Marine Corps drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, or as the screen announcer for those hilarious gun PSAs, or in Lock N’ Load with R. Lee Ermey, or even as Dr. Gregory House’s dad. He was gruff, he was salty, and yet he had a great sense of humour and wit.
Another one of Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children has gone on to earn his rest. With that in mind – let’s all relive a few of the great moments in Gunny’s film and television career:
