“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

So Much for SLAYER…

RIP Jeff Hanneman:

According to a press release sent to BraveWords from management, SLAYER is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM PST this morning (May 2nd) near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Now I’ve never been a big fan of SLAYER myself- I always preferred the much more melodic approach to thrash taken by bands like MEGADETH, KREATOR, and TESTAMENT. But I was still stunned yesterday to discover that one of the titans of the genre passed away so suddenly. Jeff’s riffs and songs were and remain landmarks of the genre, and it is now certain that SLAYER will never truly be whole again.

Clear skies, Jeff.
