“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

Monday morning game gaggle

by | Dec 3, 2018 | Mondays, Uncategorized | 0 comments

Tell me why I don’t like Mondays…

This Monday is actually a little better than most, for a number of reasons. But it’s still Monday, and that is making everyone pretty miserable.

So, your friendly neighbourhood Didact has assembled a bunch of cool videos, great music, dank-ass memes, some interesting reading material, and a hawt chick to make the day pass through your system like your morning coffee – and hopefully you didn’t buy that from Starbuck’s, which in addition to selling you overpriced swill that tastes like it was filtered through a SanFran bum’s kidneys before being poured into your hipster-friendly cup, is now a safe-haven for SocJus asshats everywhere.

This week’s serving of awesome is gaming-themed, and we start off with Razorfist’s epic shredding of Fallout 76, which apparently has more bugs than a roach motel:

Does anyone remember a couple of great old-school third-person RPG games called Darksiders and Darksiders II? I played Darksiders II a few years back and found it to be really quite intriguing. While the combat system and map were more than a little confusing, the plot was just esoteric yet familiar enough to hold my interest. And the voice acting by Michael Wincott was, of course, superb.

Unfortunately, the planned sequel, Darksiders III, got power-slammed into a brick wall by the bankruptcy of the parent developers, THQ and Vigil Games.

Fast forward about 5 years, and the various IP wranglings and legal settlements got themselves worked out to the point where, in fact, a new game could be developed:

I have to say, it looks pretty decent. If/when I ever get back to my Xbox One, I might have to give it a spin.

***

Related – Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition also looks at least decent:

The PC edition sounds like a dumb idea, but maybe the Xbox One version will be better.

The original Xbox 360 game was, much to my surprise, quite excellent. I am not normally a fan of hack-and-slash-RPG games, outside of the Legend of Zelda series. The great thing about Darksiders II is that it feels a bit like a “grown-up” sort of Zelda game, with some really interesting lore, a fascinating plot, and rather curious characters. And, of course, Michael Wincott’s voice-acting as Death is awesome.

Ultimately the game suffered from somewhat repetitive game-play, tiresome dungeons, and not-very-great graphics, but the Xbox One release for the new Darksiders III appears to have resolved at least some of those issues.

It should be interesting to see where the franchise goes from here, if nothing else.

Also related – if THQ Nordic can come up with a sequel for Darksiders II… WHY THE HELL CAN’T THEY DO THE SAME FOR WARHAMMER 40,000: SPACE MARINE?!?!?

I loved the original WH40K game. It was a really awesome blend of styles and genres, and it was very obvious that they had a severely limited budget, but they really did the best that they could with it and came up with a truly epic game and plot.

StarCraft II opening cinematics for each game – and holy crap, but they are spectacular:

I must confess that I have never gotten around to playing SCII. I still haven’t finished playing the original, never mind the Brood Wars expansion pack.

If you asked me to come up with anything good to say about Paul Verhoeven’s “adaptation” of the greatest military sci-fi novel ever written, STARSHIP TROOPERS, you would have to wait for about five minutes while I curse a blue streak and heap execration upon that man’s name, before I could give you an answer.

And the answer would probably be something like: “… the nude shower scene?”.

Seriously. That’s it.

And that is because the movie is so utterly and ridiculously different from the book:

Welcome to Portland, OR. Come for the bridges, the river views, the Asian temples, and the culture – stay for the riots, flag-burnings, Pantifag parades, and social justice asshattery:

Owen Benjamin rips apart Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, from that HORRIBLE movie that we know of as Titanic:

I hate that film. This has caused me more than one problem in the past, though.

You see, that movie is serious chick crack. I’ve dated a girl who absolutely loves that film and the Celine Dion super-mega-smash-hit song that went with it.

Related – Dr. John Becker meets a woman on a blind date who has seen Titanic like 50-plus times:

That was a truly classic sitcom. Sadly it was cancelled after just 6 seasons – and the last one was quite a short one – but twenty years on, it is still one of the best and funniest sitcoms ever made.

***

Also related – even a cheesy power metal cover of that aforementioned pile of merde that is the Celine Dion song cannot make the lyrics sound less ridiculous:

I mean, you cannot possibly have a more power metal name than BATTLEDRAGON – seriously, every single power metal trope possible is checked off by these guys – and yet even they cannot redeem that pile of horripilation that is the ear-raping Celine Dion song.

Classic clip from classic TOP GEAR – y’know, back when it was THE GREATEST TV SHOW ON EARTH and was headed by the three blokiest blokes ever to bloke across a television screen:

Hey, look! Age of Shitlords is finally back!!!

A “glamourous” 19-year old teen, Tannah Knight-Olsen, from Sydney who punched a woman in the back of her head, destroyed private property on two occasions and was caught with drugs in her possession has been spared jail time because according to the judge, “she would be a victim” in jail.

[…]

Remember, this is a girl who earlier this year was caught in the possession of marijuana and ice (also a drug). She has also faced violence charges, including incidents where she smashed a landline phone and a pot plant during disputes with family members – which she pleaded guilty to. And to top it all off, she assaulted a woman in a bar.

She was initially sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, which the judge decided to throw out the window because who cares about rule of law anyway? “She’d be a victim in jail” has got to be the lamest defense I’ve ever heard… I mean, who wouldn’t be a victim in jail? I wonder if a man who had committed the same crimes as her would get off as easily.

This, by the way, is what Ms. Thotah Knight-Olsen looks like:

Tannah Knight-Olsen was allegedly caught with the drug ice and cannabis earlier this year - which goes against her good behaviour bond

And, yes, this is a real story. It gets even worse too – the thot in question broke her bond.

Next time some feminist tells you that women definitely have tougher lives and that the pussy pass doesn’t exist, tell her this story, but hide the fact that a girl was involved and make it seem like a boy did those things. Then ask her if she thinks that the “boy” in question was treated lightly.

She will, of course, go into a full-on frothing meltdown over the preferential treatment given by “MUH PATRIARKEEEEEE!!!” to the “boy”.

That is when you drop a glorious A-Bomb of Truth upon said feminist’s corpulent, tattoo-infested, neon-haired pile of flesh and point out that it was, in fact, a girl who did these things.

The pussy pass is absolutely real. Thots need to be patrolled, and hard, for their shitty behaviour.
