As weekends go, this past one was pretty bad. I spent it feeling lost, depressed, and deeply worried about the fact that Russia’s war in Ukraine – that’s what it is, it isn’t a “special operation”, it’s a full-fledged war – has resulted in a series of extreme overreactions by the very people that created this war in the first place.
That’s right – the Western powers created this war. Because of the USSA and the EUSSR, the entire international order has been overturned in the space of 5 days (and counting). In fact, these tensions had been building for the past 30 years, but on Thursday, February 24th, the Neo-Tsar finally put them to the ultimate test.
He had to know, as we all did, that his country would take significant economic and financial damage in the process. And he pulled the trigger anyway. This is what happens when you back a giant angry bear into a corner with no chance of escape. It will strike back and take your head off – even if doing so means that it suffers grievous, possibly lethal, wounds in the process.
The astonishing thing about this war is not the fact that it is happening – it was always inevitable after the repeated, and very stupid, rejections by the Western powers of the very reasonable demands that the Russians made for Ukrainian neutrality and the cessation of NATO’s eastward expansion.
No, the astonishing thing is that the Russians are being so restrained.
Think about it. If Russia really wanted to retaliate against the Europeans, it would shut off Europe’s gas supplies. That would instantly switch off power and heat to the vast majority of industries and cities in the smaller European states, and would send Germany’s economy plummeting. After about a week or two of that, the Germans would be begging to rescind their sanctions.
But the Russians – or, at least, their government – appear to be willing to suffer severe shocks in the short run in order to crush their enemies in the long run. Time will tell whether this is a sensible course of action. All I can say is that I’m watching from the sidelines, sick with worry and horrified by a war that should by rights never have been fought, as Russian fighting men take casualties in a country controlled by a weird alliance of rapacious Jewish oligarchs, Western GloboHomoPadeocrat Pharisatanists, and literal neo-Nazis embedded throughout their paramilitary brigades.
(I’ll probably have to explain that last one at some length, as it appears to be one of the most criminally under-reported stories in recent times.)
In the meantime, let us all try to stick to the facts of the situation wherever possible – which is immensely difficult under the present circumstances. But the facts themselves tell us that the Russians are doing exactly what the lunatic Left keeps claiming it wants to do – punching (or, in the Russian case, shooting) literal Nazis in the face.
Here is the Russian point-of-view:
And here’s a Left-wing point of view:
That video makes a rather stupid claim somewhere around the 9min mark that the Russians use the existence of formations like the Azov Battalion (or Brigade, depending on what mood they’re in) to paint all Ukies as neo-Nazies. This is idiotic and blatantly false. Russians view Ukrainians, at least in the east, as fellow Slavic brothers and sisters, and overwhelmingly support their integration into a kind of “Novorossiya” (new Russia).
For the neo-Nazis, though, the Russians reserve a special and very caustic hatred – which is unsurprising, because those same neo-Nazis venerate a known Nazi collaborator, Stepan Bandera. (Again, I’ll have to write more about him later.) And, given what the Wehrmacht and especially the Waffen SS did to Russia, it’s not hard to understand why the Russians hate the Azov Brigade types so much.
It’s hard to find a video from any major source on the Right about Ukraine’s neo-Nazi problem – though that’s probably just because I haven’t looked hard enough. But, if you want to know what those guys are like, well, know that they are directly responsible for burning between 40 and 50 people alive in Odessa during the worst of the Euromaidan violence.
They MAY also have been responsible for a really nasty video involving the crucifixion and burning alive of a Russian separatist, though there are serious arguments about that video’s authenticity. I won’t show it here, it’s just too horrible.
Long story short: you probably hate what the Russians are doing in Ukraine. But before you get carried away by the screaming and shrieking of the presstitutes and the whorenalists of the Jewish-organised (((media))))))))))))))), understand that the Russians have very good reasons to be in Ukraine, and they are doing their level best to avoid civvie casualties wherever possible.
The Mighty God-Emperor
His Most Illustrious, Noble, August, Benevolent, and Legendary Celestial Majesty, the God-Emperor of Mankind, Donaldus Triumphus Magnus Astra, the First of His Name, the Lion of Midnight, may the Lord bless him and preserve him, points out, correctly, that the Neo-Tsar’s recognition of the Donbass breakaway republics was a stroke of brilliance:
It may not look like that, given what is happening to the Russian economy right now – they are getting HAMMERED. But the Neo-Tsar effectively called BS on the West’s plans in Ukraine, and then told them to put up or shut up by invading.
Say what you will about Vlad the Impaler there, but he does play a canny game.

Reading Too Much Into Things
Your “Science is F***ING WEIRD” moment of the week takes a decidedly kaiju-esque turn on the subject of bats and moths:
There aren’t many better examples of two species embroiled in an intense struggle for survival than bats and moths. These two animals are the archetype of an evolutionary arms race, with each trying to one-up the other in the battle of survival between predator and prey.
Bats first evolved the ability to echolocate around 65 million years ago. By producing high frequency “clicks” with their mouth or nose and listening for echoes bouncing off objects, bats are able to illuminate the world around them with sound.
Echolocation allows bats to exploit hunting opportunities unavailable to other aerial predators. By hunting at night, they have the opportunity to pursue and consume nocturnal insects.
This ability has put huge pressure on the insects that bats target, such as crickets, lacewings and grasshoppers. That means many of these insects have evolved an extraordinary range of counter-adaptations to help them survive. And in no species are these so evident as in moths.
Many moths have evolved ears that are sensitive to bat echolocation calls. This allows them to hear bats approaching and take evasive action, like hiding in foliage or flying away.
Some moths have even evolved to produce sounds of their own, alerting bats that they are toxic. If a species emits high frequency clicks that are audible to an attacking bat, the bat will quickly learn to associate a clicking moth with a bad taste: and will stop targeting them altogether.
The clicks of some moth species are even able to “jam” bats’ echolocation calls. By timing their clicks to overlap with the clicks of an approaching bat, moths are able to confuse the bat, making it harder for it to reach its target.
Your long read of the week is an excellent article from Prof. Sergey Karaganov about the new “Putin Doctrine” of Russian foreign policy, which will brook absolutely no interference in Russian affairs within their own sphere of influence:
It is very unfortunate that we never got the nerve to openly say it – NATO had become an aggressor that committed numerous war crimes. This would’ve been a sobering truth for various political circles in Europe, like in Finland and Sweden for example, where some are considering the advantages of joining the organization. And all the others for that matter, with their mantra about NATO being a defense and deterrence alliance that needs to be further consolidated so it can stand against imaginary enemies.
I understand those in the West who are used to the existing system that allows the Americans to buy the obedience of their junior partners, and not just in terms of military support, while these allies can save on security expenses by selling part of their sovereignty. But what do we gain from this system? Especially now that it’s become obvious that it breeds and escalates confrontation at our western borders and in the whole world.
The bloc is a threat to its members as well. While provoking confrontation, it doesn’t actually guarantee protection. It is not true that Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty warrants collective defense if one ally is attacked. This article doesn’t say that this is automatically guaranteed. I am familiar with the history of the bloc and the discussions in America regarding its establishment. I know for a fact that the US will never deploy nuclear weapons to “protect” its allies if there is conflict with a nuclear state.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is also outdated. It is dominated by NATO and the EU that use the organization to drag out the confrontation and impose the West’s political values and standards on everyone else. Fortunately, this policy is becoming less and less effective. In the mid-2010s I had the chance to work with the OSCE Panel of Eminent Persons (what a name!), which was supposed to develop a new mandate for the organization. And if I had my doubts about the OSCE’s effectiveness before that, this experience convinced me that it is an extremely destructive institution. It’s an antiquated organization with a mission to preserve things that are obsolete. In the 1990s, it served as an instrument of burying any attempt made by Russia or others to create a common European security system; in the 2000s, the so-called Corfu Process bogged down Russia’s new security initiative.
Practically all UN institutions have been squeezed out of the continent, including the UN Economic Commission for Europe, its Human Rights Council and Security Council. Once upon a time, the OSCE was viewed as a useful organization that would promote the UN system and principles in a key subcontinent. That didn’t happen.
Non-Russians underestimate Putin’s resolve, and that of his countrymen, at their own great peril. Russia is not the broken, bankrupt, weak and spineless husk of a great power that it was in 1991 – or even in 2001. Today’s Russia is MORE than capable of asserting itself over its own territory, which is precisely what it is doing today.

I gotta be honest, Didact. I really cannot tell what’s going on with the Russia/Ukraine conflict. I understand it geopolitically. I understand the nature of the dispute. What I cannot tell is what is actually going on, on the ground, in the Donbas region.
Russia’s supporters (you included) say the operation/war is going well for Russia and Putin, and that Putin is achieving or will achieve his objectives. You say this is an attempt to liberate and naturalize Russian-speaking people living in Donbas. One of Putin’s objectives is to unite cultural/linguistic Russians, and to protect and defend the Russian people.
Ukraine’s supporters (and apparently, much of the Right in the US) see this as neo-Soviet aggression. It’s an attempt to reunite and rebuild the old USSR, to shatter NATO, and to saber-rattle against the US. Why, they think Putin will bang his shoe on the table at the UN and scream “we will bury you”. They think “today, Ukraine, tomorrow, Alaska. Tomorrow, the Lower 48. Putin’s Going To Take Over The World.”
I live in the continental US. I personally don’t care about the Russia/Ukraine conflict. I personally care more about what Justin Castreau is doing right f***ing next door to his own countrymen and women, because Brandon is tacitly approving it.
Another thing: Ukraine’s supporters (and most of the American Right) say Putin bungled it, Ukraine’s military forces are successfully repelling this military invasion, and Putin will leave the country with his tail between his legs. I haven’t seen any Baghdad Bob moments. Everyone says they’re “winning”. But I cannot tell what the truth is.
It’s not easy to figure out, at all. The Russians are maintaining an unusually effective information blockade. I use the “Intel Slava Z” Telegram channel, and The Saker’s blog, to try to get a better picture of what is going on. I tend to cross-check what The Saker writes, against what RT and Sputnik News say, and then compare that with live videos from Intel Slava Z, to put together some sort of more-or-less-useful picture.
But it’s an annoying and painful process.
I am not nearly as sanguine as, say, Andrei Martyanov, or others at Unz.com. Russia’s ability to wage war for prolonged periods is quite limited. They just don’t have the economic resources to fight this kind of high-speed war for more than a month. Their economy is already being absolutely hammered by sanctions, and it’s going to get worse over the coming days and weeks. I believe that, if this campaign goes on for longer than about 2 weeks, Russia will have to start pulling back and abandoning Ukraine. They will have achieved a crushing physical victory – but they will have taken an absolute moral beating.
Yes. And I think those people are ignorant asshats who have never bothered to look at what the Neo-Tsar has actually said, repeatedly, on the record. Nor have they bothered to look at the logistics, demographics, economics, and politics required to recreate the Soviet Empire. It is not even remotely feasible and will not happen.
I get that sentiment. I really do. Hereabouts, there is no immediate impact from this war. But the USA, therefore NATO, is led by incompetent, arrogant, foolish children who have zero restraint, self-awareness, or moral decency. And that means that they will happily drag the entire Western world into an armed confrontation with a country that they have bullied, sanctioned, harassed, belittled, ignored, and attacked for the past 15 years, which now has absolutely nothing to lose.
How the USA responds now, will determine whether Russia, and then the US, go to their “non-nuclear nuclear options”: cutting off gas supplies to Europe, and then incorporating Finland and other Baltics into NATO. If that happens, God help us all.
Let me ask you this: does a winning side release prisoners, arm them along with the general populace, and blow up bridges and civilian infrastructure? That is what the Ukies are doing right now. The reality of the situation is that Kiev is surrounded, Kharkov is the subject of mopping-up operations, the encirclement of Ukie forces in the east is nearly complete, and Russian forces are pushing up from Kherson in the south. The Chechens are pushing west, and forces massing at Brest could invade near Lvov.
Ukraine is caught between the jaws of a gin-trap. Its professional armed forces have been almost completely incapacitated. The main resistance – and it is serious – comes from the paramilitary brigades of the “national guard” at this point, which consists heavily of neo-Nazis and ultranationalists.
This was never going to be an easy war, and nobody at Russian GHQ believed it would be – contrary to media reports. Nor, however, is it a total disaster. There are wheels within wheels here, which will take time to unpack. But, judging by what I am seeing on the Intel Slava Z channel and elsewhere, the Russians are advancing rather quickly, although they ARE soaking up casualties.
It is funny the VPN is important. I had USA and Australia on. The website Rt is block. I use an VPN using Switzerland and it works.
Wow they are really scare of the opposite view point. It is their view point or the highway.
It is the end of Liberal Democracy (which probably really ended in 2016 by the Big Tec banning Alex Jones or the 2020 election with the banning of Trump). You can not say free or freedom without the meaning being different to who you are talking to.
Freedom now (in the left world or mainstream media) you can talk about the weather, to able to socialize safety (only if you have the vax to hangout with people who also taken the vax) and be safe from words that the left disagree on.
It does not mean free speech, free to choose what you put into your body, or freedom to socialize whoever you wish to.
The way the left work is different. They differ in the way they understand hierarchy. The (Christian) Right understands it to be God, family and then the nation in that order. You give yourself to Jesus 1st and foremost, then you listen to the authority of the Church unless they contradict Jesus. Family roles are based on the Bible and the nation is the people.
The (modern) left order is self, Authoritarianism (by the expects) and fairness. The leaders of Authoritarianism whether Global or not is to the leftist people those that they demined have the right to rule due to social credit and power. Most of the leaders the leftist loves tend to be narcissist (remember rule number one is self). The truth is not important nor is Justice but how things are seen. One only has to look in public and see the shirt of Che guevara.
Take a look to Climate change this picture is from 1932 https://cms.zerohedge.com/s3/files/inline-images/1932-Glaciers-will-melt.jpg?itok=fPvtjPp3
and this https://i.pinimg.com/originals/be/95/29/be9529dacad7d978cffad1680ec4721f.jpg
Does this or other facts matter in Climate Change debate, the answer is no.
The expects are saying the world is getting warmer and the need for big government, so since they say this then it is. You get told you have to be a expect for them to listen. The thing is that even if you are a expect they still will not listen unless the major of expects change the narrative.
The narrative is more important and so the truth and facts must be made to fit it.
If you really want them to change what they believe, you have to get power and force the expects to change.
Since (we in the right) believe in God and the truth is more important.
Yes. The West is desperately trying to shut down RT, Sputnik, TASS, and RIA Novosti. Which is actually quite ridiculous, because RT isn’t even particularly heavy on Russian propaganda, and neither are the others. The Russian sites simply don’t criticise the government very much – they actually do run negative stories about life in Russia quite frequently.
A simple objective comparison of Russian and Western news sites will show that the former are considerably less biased than the latter. It’s just that straightforward.
The best way to think about it probably comes from, of all places, Stranger Things. The Left is of the father of lies, because they start from the oldest lie of all: “you too can be like God”. They view Mankind as perfectible, which means that any means used to perfect man are permissible. As a result, the Left thinks with, essentially, a collective or hive mind. While individuals within the Left have quite diverse viewpoints, ultimately, their ideology and worldview comes from one place.
The Right, on the other hand, starts from the premise that men are inherently flawed, Fallen, and broken, and cannot be redeemed by the hands of men alone. We need something greater than ourselves – a Creator, to take away our sins and redeem us. The objective of government must therefore be to protect us from each other, not to fix us. But this is inherently a very individualistic way of thinking, because there are so many different ways of solving that particular problem of protecting ourselves from each other.
The divisions are not nearly so neat as this, obviously, but this is a useful illustration. This all comes from Dr. Thomas Sowell’s superb book, A Conflict of Visions.
We are individualistic. Those whom we fight are a monolithic collective. Inevitably, we tend to lose the battles – even as we have already won the war. But when we put our differences aside, band together, and fight for the truth – well, even as few as 12 can topple empires.
Indeed. Facts never mattered in that discussion and never will. It’s all about using fear and authority to ensure compliance, to perfect Mankind. Which is precisely what makes the Left so damnably dangerous. Michael Crichton wrote about this in one of his last books, State of Fear, which tackled this exact issue.
The relative casualties thing is still really hard to pin down. Vox Day found an interesting analysis to go over. https://voxday.net/2022/03/01/ukraine-invasion-a-comparative-analysis/
But the sheer range of casualty estimates still fall severely into “fog of war” territory, making accurate outcome predictions extremely unlikely, if not impossible. The estimate range crosses the order of magnitude line – about 5 times worse than a coin toss so far as accuracy goes.
