“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

A touch of class

I had a different post in mind for today, and will probably still end up writing and posting that one later on, but there is a video that I came across today which I thought merited its own post, instead of getting buried in one of my Monday misery-reducing missives.

This video is by Nick from Nick’s Strength & Power, one of the very best fitness channels out there on YouTube. He does a terrific job of keeping his content interesting and varied, and largely eschews the typical boring approach of most YouTube gym rats. The typical approach simply involves watching some dude lift heavy weights with voice-over commentary. Nick’s approach is much more entertaining, informative, thought-provoking, and just plain interesting.

Unfortunately, the content of his video from the 7th is none of those things. It is, instead, both deeply sad and quite inspiring.

The video concerns the passing of Officer Dale Woods of Colerain, Ohio, who was hit by a truck while managing a routine traffic stop. Officer Woods was taken to hospital and was in critical condition for a couple of days before his very untimely passing.

He had over 15 years of experience in the police, and had over 15 years of additional experience as a paramedic and firefighter.

This was a man of action, a sheepdog, if ever there was one.

He is survived by his wife and three young children.

Now I’ll go away and let you watch this most excellent of tribute videos:

Rest In Peace, Officer.

I have been looking, but has anyone set up a gofundme or something for his family?

Yeah, I can't either. I suspect that one was not setup, at least not yet. It is a terrible shame; from what I have seen, Officer Woods was a good and decent man who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
