“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

Funny racist bastards

I am not from Africa, so I am not sure just how “clued-in” the following clip is to the sense of humour that is prevalent in South Africa itself, but I have to say, the accents are not too shabby:

And, yes, the actresses in that clip are not in fact South African – even I could tell that their accents were not genuine. (The consequences of having to listen to a real South African swimming coach when I was growing up – boy, was she a real dragon lady…)

At any rate, if anyone here IS from South Africa and does speak Afrikaans, perhaps you wouldn’t mind elaborating on the South African sense of humour and the ways that people make fun of each other there?
