“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

As has probably become apparent by now, I am a massive fan of the HALO saga. I love the video games, but I’m also a big fan of the expanded HALOverse. This includes the novels, the art, and of course, the music.

Up until the release of HALO 4, I thought it was simply flatly impossible to create a video game soundtrack that would be better than the soundtrack to HALO 3.

I was wrong.

Not only is HALO 4 quite possibly tied with HALO 3 for the title of greatest FPS ever- indeed, depending on the day, I might be inclined to put it just a hair ahead- but its soundtrack somehow manages to be even better than that of HALO 3 at certain points.

This track is one of my personal favourites. It encapsulates everything that I love about HALO- the epic scale, the sense of childlike wonder, the emotional involvement, the magnificent power of a truly brilliant mind showing you what it can do. And of course, it is the theme of the Master Chief, who as I’ve probably made clear by now, is badassitude defined.
