The sequel's biggest problem is one that went unaddressed by the Drinker and the same one that one of my other favorite films, Terminator 2, has - namely, if you had a T-1000/planet-sized warship this whole time, why not send THAT in the first place when the good guys would have had zero chance of defeating it?

T2 at least has a plausible answer to this question (the T-1000 didn't exist in the original timeline, but the T-800 they sent back created a new timeline where Skynet's development was accelerated to the point where it was possible, in a "you're now your own grandfather" kind of time paradox).

The parents are very supportive. Yes the kid is a geniuses but the supplies, funding and moral support does help.

This is spot on. True genius requires good parenting to nurture it so that it really grows into its own.

On the Independence Day sequel, I will say there was no reason to make this

Pretty much, yeah. The only reason to make it would be if the alien mothership in the original film was just part of a "scouting force". But it wasn't - that gigantic-ass thing WAS a full-blown invasion force on its own. There was literally no reason to make a sequel - it ended on the perfect note.

People today are also getting sick of the diversity and making the films to appeal to audiences around the World (mainly for new markets in China). Older films in Hollywood (Yes there was always problems) had to instead made to appeal for Americans for better and worst.

You know what's really interesting? The Chinese themselves are also fed up of the pandering. Every film that Hollyweird makes for the purpose of marketing in China, bombs over there. They just don't care about having Chinese actors and actresses in Western movies. They think that it's actually insulting because they reckon that the Chinese people used by the Hellmouth are all really ugly, by Chinese standards. (They're not wrong either.)

Just goes to show that making movies for the sake of diversity, rather than for plot, character, drama, and art, really doesn't work very well.

Notice how unlike H2 and H5:G, literally no one complained about not playing as the Chief. Reuniting 1/3 of the cast of Firefly might have had something to do with that.

Very likely. Nathan Fillion was BORN to play Eddie Buck, no question about that.

My personal favourite part of any HALO game is always anything involving tanks. To me, HALO 4 did it best with the tank massacres in that game, but H3 and H3:ODST come very, very close. I absolutely love the Scorpion rampage with Mickey and Dutch.

By comparison, the Scorpion levels in H5:G were just... LAME.

To me, the way to tell if something is influential is by looking at how often it’s been ripped off by other IPs.

Absolutely. That's the brilliance of HALO. It used to be the most ripped-off and copied game franchise around. The mistake that they made with H5:G lay in making it feel like a derivative of other games, like the COD and Metal Gear series.

Also, ODST is a great, underrated Halo game. Notice how unlike H2 and H5:G, literally no one complained about not playing as the Chief. Reuniting 1/3 of the cast of Firefly might have had something to do with that. I also love the Mombasa Streets level because it gave us a taste of what open-world Halo could be like. Hopefully 343 will improve on it for Infinite.

To me, the way to tell if something is influential is by looking at how often it's been ripped off by other IPs. Halo in general has been assimilated completely into the FPS genre (do any of them which aren't deliberate throwbacks have health packs and let you carry 9 weapons anymore?), but ODST's "frame story in the present with levels as flashbacks" structure has been used in a million other games since, including COD Black Ops and one of the Gears of War games.

I must say on the 12 year old doing the nuclear fusion. The parents are very supportive. Yes the kid is a geniuses but the supplies, funding and moral support does help.

On the Independence Day sequel, I will say there was no reason to make this. A cool idea seeing what technology the human would take and how society would evolve after the 1st invasion. Kind like the game series Xcom as you process. It is actually my favorite part of the film and would of been better adopted into a tv or book series, like Cobra kai adapting Karate kid.

The Alien invasion was honestly a poorer man version of the 1st film. I think the main reason it doesn't work today as well as it did in 1996 is that our world has change. The whole idea of the world uniting to fight off an alien invasion after 9/11 is both foolish and unbelievable.

People today are also getting sick of the diversity and making the films to appeal to audiences around the World (mainly for new markets in China). Older films in Hollywood (Yes there was always problems) had to instead made to appeal for Americans for better and worst.

This is a Christian man in a depraved world making an absolute killing entertaining people. The money isn’t coming from the churches but from the corporations. Being the safe funny man is lucrative in the age of offense and METOO.

I didn't know that - didn't have time to look him up at all. But that's very good news. Nothing makes the Adversary more angry than seeing a true believer making a good living off of mocking him.

JP Sears is on a real hot streak too, each of those sketches is really well done. I can’t imagine how hard it is to keep the same face while making the videos.

Yeah. He may be a vegan hippy, but he's actually in very good shape and, more importantly, he's actually FUNNY.

Thank you for the assembled material!

You're very welcome. These things are a BITCH to put together every week - not gonna lie about that - but they do provide tremendous entertainment value.

Independence Day is my all-time favorite movie, even more than pre-Disney Star Wars, any of James Cameron’s films, or Pacific Rim. It falls apart if you try to think about it, but if you’re thinking about it, you’re missing the point.

It is indeed a great summer blockbuster film - the kind that allows you to suspend your brain's higher functions and just have fun without ever being too stupid. They don't make movies like that anymore.

On another note, I’m looking forward to the Trumpslide next week. I still think it’s happening, despite the best efforts of the gaslighting MSM.

Oh yeah. The polls right now are getting more silly by the day. The Rasmussen poll today finally has the God-Emperor coming out on top among likely voters, and none of the polls appear to take into account the fact that Trump's rallies are epic and absolutely jam-packed, while Biden's are hopeless and pathetic.

I haven't seen this level of gaslighting ever in my life - even the Hilldebeast was able to get a lot of followers into stadiums and arenas and bus in "volunteers" from other cities to pack her numbers.

This mustard oil bomb science story is great, it reminds me of the Jack Broccoli novel by David the Good, the world's first gardening thriller.

The Rik Roberts, great stand up routine share. I looked him up and discovered a surprise: This is a Christian man in a depraved world making an absolute killing entertaining people. The money isn't coming from the churches but from the corporations. Being the safe funny man is lucrative in the age of offense and METOO.

As for MODOK, maybe this is a millenial thing, but he's always been a joke in my understanding. In the Ultimate Alliance game he's a punchline, in the Avengers: Earth's Mightest Hero's show he's a punchline for Wasp and Thor... maybe he was a more daunting foe in the comics.

It falls apart if you try to think about it, but if you're thinking about it, you're missing the point. It's just a great time at the movies, and it was just what this geeky then-13 year old needed in the summer of '96. I saw it six times thanks to a $2 "value theater" that was within biking distance of my house (man, I miss that place) and I own at least 3 different home versions.

The sequel is terrible, and I blame the writers. Visual entertainment in general has absolute garbage writing these days. Look at something like Alien, where every single thing the crew does makes complete sense within the plot, vs. Alien:Covenant where the characters are just complete idiots because the plot needs them to be.
