The 737 MAX is, well, crap. I use to work with Boeing engineers 27-30 years ago. Those guys were top notch engineers. The Boeing engineers were smart white dudes. I also had done work with the McDonnell Douglas people, didn’t really care for them (particularly the St. Louis people, the Douglas side in Long Beach were great to work with back in those days). Phil Condit was running Boeing in the late 90’s, while he was drinking heavily, banging the hired help, and divorcing his first wife. Interesting times.
