No offense to our host and his Ur-Didact fandom, but everything in the Bungie Haloverse makes so much more sense if they were actually ancient humans like they were supposed to be. Why Spark calls humans “Reclaimers,” why the prophets want to wipe us out (can’t claim you’re the voice of the gods when living gods exist), Gravemind calling you “child of my enemy,” “this time you WON’T be left behind,” “you are weak, and gods must be strong,” and so on. They handwaved away all that rich lore, just like Disney with Star Wars, and made roughly one good game (H4 has a good story but Knights suck, H5 is terrible, and Infinite is the opposite of 4, good game but lousy story that completely wastes being set on the Halo with the richest backstory and goes in a completely different direction).

It also required the silly retconning of the Didact into 2 separate people so that Halo 4 could happen. Don’t get me wrong, I thought Greg Bear’s Forerunner Trilogy was great, but

Argentina while not quite a mirror of the USA is similar in some respects, just as importantly it isn’t that important in the grand scheme of things. The deep state wants to see if there is anyone to escape the hell they have made for themselves now that China has brutally & repeatedly rejected their offers to become the next host for the parasites.
