I have been watching a lot of testimonial videos of late, concerning the spiritual realm, and the ways in which daemons try to influence – and in many cases, take over – our lives. For some reason, TEH YOOTOOBZ decided to recommend a video from a channel called Lifting the Lamp, wherein the presenter – obviously from ‘Straya, where LITERALLY EVERYTHING WANTS TO KILL YOU AND EAT YOUR EYEBALLS FOR JUJUBEES, and that is highly relevant to this discussion – talks about what it is like to summon and interact with daemons:
The whole interview is worth watching (or, in my case, listening to), if only to understand just how dangerous, cunning, and guileful the daemonic entities of our world truly are. More than that, though, it is worth listening to as a case study in what happens when non-Christians try to grapple with daemonic forces.
It is obvious from the get-go that the presenter there is not a Christian – he started out as a Catholic, but then evidently lapsed away from any version of the Christian faith. And the consequences of that lapse are evident throughout the video. Not ONCE does the man mention the one name that daemons truly loathe and fear – the sacred and blessed name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who is Lord and King, who sits in glory at the right hand of the Father, and who will judge all Creation at the end of days. Nor does he mention the name of God, at all.
He talks about being “protected” by various icons of Michael and Gabriel. However, these are merely images of the archangels of God, who protect those that God uses for His purposes. In and of themselves, they have limited protective power against the forces of darkness.
Other parts of his testimony are extremely revealing and interesting, and serve to confirm clearly what we believe as Christians. For instance, as he notes, daemons are deceitful, and lie constantly. They will gladly tell a summoner or magician whatever he wants to believe, if only because they want to drag that man’s soul down to Hell. They are also extremely resentful of those who summon them, and will do whatever they can to defy those summoners.
The major failing in his testimony, comes from his insistence that he has given up “black” or “dark” magic, and has gone over to the “white” side of things.
Christians seriously need to get this through our thick skulls: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS WHITE MAGIC. It is ALL from Satan. ANY kind of magic is ultimately in service of the Evil One, because it defies God’s commands to avoid necromancy, auguries, horoscopes, or anything else to do with magical spells. There is a REASON why God told the Israelites not to suffer a witch to live, and why He told Israel to refuse the use of mediums and magicians. ALL of that power is straight from the very pits of Hell.
This is not news to anyone who studies the actual background to the Jewish and Christian Scriptures. Both the Book of Genesis, and the deuterocanonical Book of Enoch, make clear that the fallen Sons of God, who refused to obey His will, and therefore condemned themselves to suffer through all eternity bound in chains of gloomy darkness in the blackest depths of Tartarus, came down to Earth and bred with human women. The latter book also makes clear that it was the fallen angels – the Watchers, led by Sem’yaza (or Semjaza, depending on how you want to spell it) – who taught Mankind all manner of forbidden knowledge.
This pivotal event, when those fallen angels met on Mount Hermon, and sealed their fate with a fearful and terrible mutual binding oath to defy Yahweh, is where many of Man’s most enduring myths come from. It is where the myth of Prometheus, the fire-bringer, comes from. It is where the Epic of Gilgamesh, who was most likely the semi-historical equivalent of the actual and historical Biblical Nimrod, comes from. It is where virtually all of the Greek, Roman, Japanese, Chinese, Aztec, Hindu, Norse, and other pagan mythologies all come from.
And it is also where much of Man’s ancient knowledge comes from. (This is the bit they almost certainly didn’t teach you in Sunday School. Neat, ain’t it?)
Among the “gifts” that the Watchers left for Mankind, was witchcraft and the use of magic. Certain forms of that magic are more powerful than others, but ALL of it ultimately leads to death and doom, because ALL of it calls upon the use of powers that are not of this world, and are not from God. Such power corrupts and corrodes, and eventually, all who use it will bend toward the will of the Evil One.
As for those kinds of magic which are most powerful – well, those are blood rituals and “sex magick”. Both were favourites of one Alastair Crowley, and his disciple, Anton LaVey, used them extensively in his Church of Satan. Those types of magic are extremely dark and deadly, and NO ONE in his right mind should EVER think of consorting with them.
In fact, there is a fascinating and lengthy podcast discussion with a pastor who came across LaVey’s daughter, which explains how all of that went down, and how it ultimately doomed LaVey himself. Here it is from the Almost False podcast:
According to the testimony of that pastor – and I fully believe him – LaVey died because God simply said, “ENOUGH”. And that is the key point of all things to do with witchcraft and magic. DO NOT meddle with it, for ANY reason, no matter how tempting or compelling. Leave it alone, because the price will one day be far greater than you can afford.
Trust instead in what the original narrator of that first video refuses to do – in the Triune God Almighty, in the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Speak only the truth. Refuse to serve lies. Build a life of honour and service to the Lord. Be His instrument of holy justice and swift retribution against evil. Fight the spiritual battle in concert with the angels who watch over you, and do not fear to stand against the powers of darkness.
That being said – understand that the daemons are becoming ever more restive now. Even the name of Jesus Christ, which sends them wailing and running in terror, takes more time to do its work. There is an almost frantic quality to the workings of the evil ones these days, the fact of which more than one Catholic exorcist has commented upon. This is happening because – as mentioned in Revelation – the Devil knows his time is short. It is running out, and all the events we see today point toward a culmination that may, or may not, happen within our lifetimes. (I personally am betting on “not”, since humanity has been in this sort of position many times before, but then again, my track record of making predictions is APPALLINGLY bad, so you would do well not to listen to me on this subject.)
The commandment, nonetheless, remains the same: stand firm against evil, and do not be seduced by its ways. Seek out the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength – and He will answer.
I know this better than most. He has blessed me in ways I do not understand, despite my constant and grievous sins against Him. I have absolutely no clue why He continues to show me favour – He knows full well I certainly do not deserve it. Yet, here I am, a living testament to His goodness and grace, and His ability to redeem and use even the most broken of men.
If He can do that with a wayward sinner like me, imagine what He can do with those who are truly righteous.
So why not find out?

Powerful, Thank you!
He who relies upon power that is not from within himself is the plaything of said power. Who in their right mind wants to be the bitch of another? Have we not all experienced that firsthand in the form of our employers?
I’ve never enjoyed blaming supernatural forces for the actions of evil people. It smacks of relieving them of the responsibility for their own actions. Man is a fallen creature… he does not need to be possessed to be an icon of horror and villainy.
I understand Catholics don’t consider anyone who is not a Catholic to be a Christian, but possession is a relic of Catholic mythology, like worshipping icons of people voted in as saints and pretending it isn’t worshipping graven images, and the entire trinity thing, it is not a feature of everyone who takes Christ as their savior.
I fully believe that there are those who worship the devil, through intent and action, as well as any of his minions, but that is their own choice. They never once lose the right or ability to say ‘No, I am not going to do that’, and they deserve their punishment for every single action at every step in the process… from making the decision to do evil to following through and then covering it up.
If someone says ‘the devil made me do it’, he is not possessed, he is trying to shirk responsibility for his own actions. There may be something wrong with a monster’s brain, but that is chemistry and choice, not demonic possession.
“but possession is a relic of Catholic mythology”
Catholics get it from biblical sources, such as the account of Jesus over Legion:

The demons know the score:

The “Christ casting demons into pigs” story appears in three different Gospels, but I never hear it mentioned in popular Christian discourse. I always found that a little funny.
