“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

Friday T&A: Escalation Edition

For those of you who were paying attention to the NOOSE today, things went from what we might consider “regular crazy” to “batshit insane” in the space of a few hours. First came the news of MASSIVE, and I mean truly off-the-charts, Russian missile strikes all over 404 – Country Not Found.

It looks like the Russians are finally getting serious about ploinkifying whatever is left of Ukraine’s infrastructure. They appear to be done playing around and being “nice”. (Given the Russian idea of “nice” these days, involves dropping 1.5-tonne guided bombs on the heads of enemy soldiers, I tremble to think of what they call “not-nice”.)

And then, tragically, came the news later in the day of what is, by all accounts, a very nasty terrorist attack in northwest Moscow.

I have never been to the Crocus City Hall shopping mall and concert complex – it is far in Moscow’s northwest, a good long way out of the city centre, and I have very little knowledge of that part of Moscow. What few details we have of the attack, indicate a well-planned operation designed to inflict severe casualties and mass panic in a short time. Which is precisely what happened.

However, the long-term effect will likely be the exact opposite of whatever the planners intended.

I know the Russians, at least to some degree. I understand, to an extent, how they think. This will not cow or intimidate them. It will instead absolutely INFURIATE them.

These are the same people who responded to Chechen subway bombings and jihadi attacks in the early-to-mid-2000s by, essentially, levelling Grozny and slaughtering the Wahhabist nutbags who plagued Chechnya during that terrible time. And look at the Chechens today – something like 97% of them went to vote, and virtually ALL of them voted for The Putin.

We do not know, at the time of writing, who did this foul deed. A lot of Western whore-media outlets are running with the idea that ISIS was behind it, but Russian media outlets are keeping very quiet about that, and I have seen refutations of this on Telegram.

We all know who the most likely culprits are. After all, Cookie Monster Nuland gave a rather “cryptic” message before she resigned, about how the Ukrainians have “some nice surprises” planned for the Russians. A little over a week ago, Western embassies sent out panicked warnings to foreign nationals in Russia to avoid public places due to heightened security threats… including shopping malls and concert venues.

And then, more recently, Ukraine’s not-actually-very-good spy chief, Kirill Budanov, issued a poorly-veiled threat about plans to stage major provocations in Russia.

I’m not saying outright it was the Ukies – because, at this moment, we just don’t have a clue – and the evidence pointing in their direction is, for the moment, purely circumstantial. I just cannot help noticing a particular pattern here.

All I can say is… it’s been a tough day. I care about Russia and the Russians, and I am deeply saddened to see this happen in such a great city, to a wonderful people, who never wanted this war – but who will now fight it, to whatever its ultimate conclusion is, with all their strength.

And with that out of the way, let’s try to enjoy the weekend, insofar as is possible.

This week features Kimberly Lynn Weiler, age unknown, from the doomed occupied land of Canuckistan. She does… well, I have no idea what, but it’s the best I could come up with at a pinch.

Happy Friday, all.
