you need to be careful though. there is a BIG difference between something being written in the Bible and what is True. just because a Hebrew in the OT does something doesn’t mean he was doing it because God wanted it done. as for instance when the patriarchs of the 12 tribes got together and threw Joseph in a pit because they were childishly spiteful and jealous.

note that i’m not asserting that God did not tell the Hebrews to annihilate certain cities; He not only wanted various tribes eliminated, if you take the Flood seriously, God “genocided” most of the planet Himself at one point.

the root problem is the sin of Moses explicated earlier. God said that He would use the Jews as a tool to redeem His creation. the Jews assert that THEY are going to redeem the creation that God screwed up.

when Moses was striking the rock his statement, at minimum, elevated Aaron and himself to being co-equals with God in the work of bringing forth water from the rock. it could be taken as Moses elevating himself and his brother above God in bringing forth the water.

God did / does not “need” someone else to do something for Him. He is sufficient of Himself.

The difference is, back then, God commanded it for a REASON, and He explicated precisely why.

There is no justification for it in the modern day.
