“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

The ticket salesman

If you have ever wondered what it looks like when a servant of the Evil One knocks on your door to offer you a ticket to fortune, and possibly fame, the very recent example of the phone call between Kari Lake and Arizona Republicuck Party chairman, Jeff DeWitt, is one of the best examples you will ever find:

When the servants of the Prince of this world come to offer you a ticket, they are usually not quite so blunt. They typically adopt much softer and more subtle methods. The slide toward oblivion often starts with an offer to commit some seemingly innocuous sin – going to a somewhat sketchy party, taking a harmless drug, exposing oneself in a mildly compromising but not particularly embarrassing way, that sort of thing.

Once they have you hooked, though, they come for you in much more insidious ways.

Let us take the example of a musician who sings devotional music to Our Lord. The ticket-selling starts early – they invite you to parties with big-name record executives, who get you increasingly big gigs and greater exposure. They find ways to steer beautiful women and money your way – they might even try to tempt you with drugs, to see how far you are willing to bend your morals, and therefore bend the knee to their Prince.

Eventually, they will demand you swear allegiance to them, one way or another – usually by requiring you to “stop all that singing about Jesus”.

If you agree… they own you. From that point forward, you are their slave. And you will have to pay the Devil himself if you want to get your freedom back.

Ever seen an old show called Strange Frequency 2? I did, many, many years ago. I remember it principally because it starred the legendary Roger Daltrey of THE WHO – yeah, I know, Boomer music of the worst kind, but Who’s Next is STILL, to this day, one of the greatest rock albums ever made – and… uh… that dude who played Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

(The latter being a show of which, to this day, I have never watched a full episode, to my knowledge. Even back then, as a misguided yoot, Ye Younge Didacte understood at some level that Joss Whedon was a massive Gamma.)

Anyway, that show provides another superb example of what happens when the Devil comes for you:

Try to get your freedom back, after you have sold it – and you will quite possibly have to surrender your life.

The servants of the Dark One also understand this, at some level. If they fail in their mission to corrupt and enslave, they will themselves be consumed.

You can hear precisely that sentiment in the previous clip of the conversation between Ms Lake and Mr. DeWitt. The latter expresses the clear sentiment that, if this conversation ever leaked out to the public (which it now has), he could very well be a dead man.

Many will scoff at the idea. I do not. The nature of evil is such that it will not tolerate failure. If a servant of the Evil One fails in his mission to corrupt a human and lead him or her off the path of truth and righteousness, that servant will be consumed by his master.

Don’t believe me? Just read The Screwtape Letters by Clive Staples Lewis. You will not find a finer, or funnier, example of what that process of corruption and failure actually looks like – it is literally a how-to manual, written by a Christian, therefore someone who understands that process perfectly as an enemy of it, on how one might try to corrupt a Christian man.

All I can say is, MASSIVE props to Ms Lake for rejecting the ticket. She is not perfect – none of us are. But the fact that she refused to take the ticket, refused to back down on her principles, and stood firm in the face of temptation, speaks volumes for her character and humanity.

Pray for her, brothers. She will need it.

And, for all of his IMMENSE flaws, and his colossal failures, pray for Donald Trump. He needs it too.

We must all remember something, mastery must be obtained not through the efforts of others (in this example, the ticket salesman) but by our own effort. Mastery that is obtained from another can be rescinded by another, mastery obtained by one’s self is much harder to take away.

Whether it comes on from high or from below, remember you don’t own it. You own only what you have obtained via blood, cunning, and iron.
