The reason Civil Engineers get a bad rap is because of environmentalism. They all take one look at structural mechanics and declare a concentration in muh environment to avoid the hard maffs. If you want to do civil engineering, do the hard maffs, and you’ll have a six figure salary before age 30 no problem.

2 things about the best college degrees:

Engineering is one of the best majors there is. There are very few unemployed engineering graduates, and if you focus on Mechanical Engineering it is fairly easy to transition to Electrical or other fields by taking a few more courses after graduation. The firm you work for will probably pay for it as well.
Under no circumstances should anyone major in Economics. Ever. They will learn nothing about how the world actually works, and if you want to work in statistics you’re much better off with a degree in Mathematics. Also, the terminal degree in Economics is the PhD, not the Bachelor’s degree. The U.S. already has too damn many Econ PhDs already and 99% of them are Communists or Neo Keynesians.
