Let's say if you haven't been here in a while, that except for the 'toys' everyone seems to have, there's no middle class in the US anymore.
Sure, everyone has a computer and a cellphone. But simply rent and food are taking up more than 100% of the average family's income... that hasn't been the case in the 'free world' since the dark ages.
No one but retired boomers can afford to travel or even have vacations anymore. On the surface, we still have a high standard of living, but the gap between the rent-seeking haves and the hard-working have-nots has become the Mariana trench, yawning and swallowing everything. We are stuck in poverty, but because we still have the intarweb we don't notice it.

But, this is not something most visitors will notice. But there's a reason the 'warm states' are packed with tent cities now. The massive glut of non-taxpaying third world labor combined with the massive amount of south American and entitled minority dregs cost us more in welfare than the taxpaying, working citizens produce. Between dozens of taxes, most of which are disguised as 'other fees' our taxation is well above 70%. and yet, our government is still spending more and supporting the greedy corporate assbags paying 'noncitizens' billions to move here.
