Every man should dig deeper into the Sociopath/Psychopath part of humanity. It is a genuine and troubling deviation from the norm. Marvel had the X-Men as mutants, and those are a parallel manifestation of this emotional mutation in the human strain. ~5% of the population is in this category. At a rate of 1 in every 20, there is certain to be a sociopath in your social/work/family/religious/academic circles, and probably more then one.

The Sociopath Next Door is a great summary work that is written for a popular audience. She lays out what this person is, how they understand other people, and how normal people DO NOT understand them.
