I think the ONE kind of woke-y thing with it, and I am being VERY nitpicky here, was that the female characters are generally smarter and braver than the male ones. There’s also this fat androgynous dude in Millie Bobby Brown’s time-consuming side quest who exists mainly to be the butt of everyone else’s jokes.

HOWEVER...even though they might crack a few jokes at the men’s expense, the women are generally respectful towards, and supportive of, their male counterparts, even in the butt monkey’s case. There no Rey-style “don’t hold my hand” bullshit, no Mary Sue “any woman off the street is better than any man” implied subtext. There’s also no absurd situations where they successfully beat up a bunch of bigger and stronger men hand-to-hand, which was refreshing, abs as Didact said, the one woman who comes closest to fitting into that mold gets stomped into paste.

Even the butt monkey gets to save the day in the end, too.

One thing I never get tired of is anime though. As cliché as they are, they still hit your fantasy glands better than anything.

Yes, with a strong caution - there are some seriously corrupted anime out there. Black Butler is a good example of a really messed-up anime that tries hard to normalise both homosexuality and, to a lesser extend, paedophilia. And that has a lot to do with the really warped mindset of its creator.

John Wick and Expendables were exceptional action movies though. I think they didn’t waste a a lot of scenes except the part were they included Ronda Rousey in Expendables 3.

I loved the first two Expendables films, but the third was too stupid even for me. They got rid of all of the blood and gore, and the Ronda Rousey bits were far dumber than I was willing to tolerate.

Wellllll... they came pretty close to the third one. The villain is a middle-aged European White dude with a Spanish accent.

That being said, his daughter is also a villain, and she gets squished to death (literally). And the main male protagonist is White and saves the day at the end.

So, yeah, it IS better than about 99% of the movies out there today.

If they didn't make Kong gay, or Godzilla a trannie; if they didn't raise a presumption of whiteness=evil, then it HAS to be better than about 99% of the movies currently being fielded.

Well, I would have seen this movie, except my brain is already fried from watching other mindless action movies like Transformers (1,2,3 at least because I did not bother watching the other 17) and many others.
