I’m beginning to think that it’s an active plot to make our lives as stupidly difficult as possible, so that we will be glad to accept the illusion of safety from our Benevolent Government Overlords when they come up with a vaccine that inevitably doesn’t work even half as well as they advertise and force us all to get injected with it.

Most of us will be so relieved to have a way out – ANY way out – that we’ll opt for the anti-Coof jab. But we won’t realise until it’s too late that the Kung Flu simply has to be lived with and handled.

I was in a clinic yesterday getting another chest x-ray for visa purposes. The nurse handling the paperwork had, I shit you not, TWO masks on her face – one blue surgical mask, and one multiple-use cloth mask – PLUS a face-shield. I couldn’t understand one damn word that she was saying, and she was already speaking in a language in which I am not fluent.

To say that it was an irritating experience is a huge understatement.

Americans are really going to miss indoor plumbing before long. It’s getting that bad in some parts of the country. And the same is true of much of the Western world.

BTW, dengue fever’s making a resurgence in Florida, especially certain urban areas in South Florida.

What point am I making here? Only that it’s another indicator of the continuing slide backward of American progress won after a hard fight of many decades.

You are forgetting that the mandatory mask is a regulatory sacrifice to the spirit of the age by management on your behalf.

Entirely correct. People are ruled by fear, not reason, and most people have an inordinate fear of dying. They would rather put the burden of their own safety upon other people instead of themselves. And it’s ridiculous.

I walked into a house recently without a mask and was promptly upbraided by the lady of the place. She’s in her 60s and her husband is nearly 70. She told me, to my face, “Please don’t come in here without a mask. We both have comorbidities and we’ve been able to keep ourselves safe for 8 months, let’s keep it that way.”

This was a pretty sad incident. Even discounting the fact that I am very close with these folks, the fear in their minds and voices is astonishing, and depressing. They live in a country where there are roughly 5.7 MILLION likely cases of dengue fever every year, and that is a genuinely dangerous disease which is difficult to treat and has no cure (other than eradicating mosquitoes – impossible in their current environment). Yet they are terrified of a virus where the lethality of the outbreak is clearly diminishing rapidly based on the latest data.

This is why people have to start pushing back against the fear. And it starts with every one of us. Simply going outside not wearing a mask is an act of defiance – and a needed one.
