“We are Forerunners. Guardians of all that exists. The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms… And the impervious shelter, beneath which it has prospered.”

Didactic Mind, Ep. 49: Have No Fear

by | Oct 4, 2020 | Podcasts | 2 comments

This week’s podcast is all about fighting the mind-crippling fear that has overtaken all of us thanks to the Chinese Mumps. I provide some understanding of what has happened, why the fear is overblown, what you can do to fight it, and where and how there is reason for hope.

I wish I could find that Bill Whittle video that I referenced in the podcast, but I haven’t the time to go running around searching for it. That particular Afterburner special was truly great – and given the quality of Bill’s output, that’s saying something.

Here are the books that I mentioned in the podcast itself:

And those mortality rates that I mentioned can be found in a variety of places, but if you want the simple breakdown, here it is:

The manner treatment of those being crucified was part of a book I read where they were explaining the Shroud of Turin. Try as they may they can’t explain how that image got there (they carbon dated a repair section initially, it’s actually of the period). The can’t explain how this guy was clearly crucified, yet did not have his legs broken. He also had damage from a crown of thorns, something that the author said they wouldn’t have done, usually. Their death was going to be painful and humiliating enough. The Romans wouldn’t have added to it further.

I watched a documentary on Netflix looking at the Shroud of Turin in which they put forth a pretty compelling theory about how the thing could have been faked, using an ancient form of photography. I don’t take a strong position either way on the subject; if it’s a fake, that alone doesn’t shake my faith in Jesus, and if it’s real, well, then that is pretty astonishing proof of God’s power.
