The simple answer is that Christianity is a vital element, and perhaps he most important, but it is not the only one. Sort of like what flour is to a cake.

Meanwhile, many Christian countries are languishing, including most of Latin America.

I agree that aspects of Christianity are pro-civilization, but it isn't automatic, and there appear to be other paths.
