Was the shooting justified? I have no idea. But it appears that a line has been crossed and some sort of serious blowback is starting.

Then, I was assimilated and started poking around the intranet. All sorts of team videos (celebrating rainbows), all sorts of channels, from cooking to pets to God knows what. All the time I'm thinking "what the hell have I gotten into here" and "How do these activities make us money".

Then we have the CEO on call, pre BLM, saying we gotta get more women in tech. Really? This is a very gynocentric company. Nearly every meeting I've attended is majority women. Then, St. George Floyd was canonized, and now we need more brown and black people in Tech. At a kickoff meeting recently, all the execs said their piece, and each ended their talks with a struggle session on what they are personally going to do for diversity and inclusion.

How the fck does this make us money?

Mind you, this is a global company with offices all around the world filled with people of all races, both men and women of God knows what sexual orientation or religion. We've no reason whatsoever to bend a knee. None. If anything, our execs should crow about it.

Correct. The problem is that both the tax code and the culture make it easy to tink in the short-term, only about next quarter's profits rather than the next 10 years' worth of profits. That's a big part of the reason why these snakes in the grass keep getting into companies and wrecking them from the inside.

There's a good argument to be made for keeping companies private and in the hands of the original owners, rather than opening them up to shareholders. The Bose Corporation, for instance, is still private as far as I know, and doing very well. Michael Dell used a leveraged buyout to take his company private again, and he's managed to turn it right back around in the process.

Correct on all points. Basically Jim Burke and the leadership team looked at their Credo and applied it as it was intended. That's why they came through that whole crisis with a shining reputation.

People pay 100K a year to go to B-school to learn this stuff, when really it's just basic ethics. It's a great racket if you can get in on it.
