The problem is, you see, that the elites think we actually are children who, if it weren't for the blessings of government (with themselves in charge, of course), wouldn't be able to feed or clothe ourselves. And, just like the good parents they think they are, they have no problem forbidding things that would be dangerous. Dangerous for whom? We're not big enough to answer that type of question, and merely asking it would bug mommy and daddy, so don't ever ask it again. Now, go to your room and play on Facebook all night; everything will be OK.

Indeed. The 2nd Amendment has precisely no ambiguity whatsoever built into it. It may well have been written over 200 years ago, but nothing about its basic intent has changed at all in the intervening span of time. Its purpose was always, first and foremost, to secure for the people the ability to protect themselves against tyranny. And not one part of it, not one word, implies any need for any kind of hedge or regulation or modification.

What mystifies me to no end is the fact that I, as a foreigner, understand all of this better than almost any liberal American…

Once you gain possession of it, you have 2 weeks to go back down to the station and register that firearm under your name.

For rifles and shotguns, your permit is good for one year to acquire and register as many as you'd like. For handguns, you you have to go through the 2 week process & background check for every single handgun you want to acquire.

Once you're a registered firearm owner, you are now in a database that the State and Family Courts use indiscriminently. All it takes is a woman to claim you threatened her, and for her to get a TRO on you, and the sheriffs show up at your door to confiscate all your registered firearms.

To have unregistered firearms is considered a felony.

Because of the hassle to legally acquire firearms, my personal collection is nowhere near as big as I'd like it to be. That, of course, is exactly what they hoped to accomplish with these anti-2nd amendment regulations.

That being said, there's a reason why Hawaii seems to be lock step with the shit-lib anti-gun agenda. This state has been a Democrat stronghold and Union run town for over 60 years. The most powerful Union in the State is the Longshoremen, and they are tied into the Democrat party machine. Many of those union blue collar guys are gun owners, but they support the Union no matter what, and they vote how their Union reps tell them too, because they want the politicians who will support the Unions when the next round of collective bargaining comes up to get them more wages and more benefits.

Hawaii's Democrats-Unions cabal is why liberalism is so strong here. Union workers have a simple mindset when it comes to politics. It's tribal. They'll vote for and rubber stamp anything a Democrat politician works for, as long as the Unions gets what they wants. It's more of a football fan mindset rather then an exercise in political reasoning and logic. Hawaii Union members cheer for Team Donkey no matter what. Thus, you get liberalism run amok as the default for most of our residents.

… Until one of you is actually forced to use your weapon for defensive purposes against someone intent upon doing great harm to you, your family, your friends, your tribe, or your home.

And then you'll see just how quickly the supposedly "benign" law demanding that you register your weapons, is turned against you."

And that is the real reason for the existence of your 2nd amendment. That, and the right to defend yourself against tyranny.

Your 2nd amendment is SO clear that it shouldn't even *have* any regulations built around it to hem it in.
