The reason why I like her as an author is because she built up the Mandalorian culture. I think The Republic Commando series was her best work; but, I am currently reading Halo: Glasslands, so that might change.

Elysium, out of those three, is the only one that I would recommend. Iron Man 3 is alright if you are into the Marvel universe.

In reply to <a href="https://didacticmind.com/2013/08/book-review-marines-by-jay-allen.html#comment-4258">Anonymous</a>.

She did a decent job- right up until the point where she killed off Mara Jade. That really annoyed me. And she seemed to spend most of her time building up the Mandalorian language and culture, rather than building a coherent plot line. At least, that was the case back when she was writing for the Legacy of the Force series. (I actually had to look that up. That's how long it's been since I last bothered with the SWEU.) She redeemed herself in my eyes with her work in the HALO EU, though. The Kilo Five Trilogy is excellent.

Haven't seen Elysium yet. Kept meaning to. Never got around to it. I'm actually pretty impressed with Tom Cruise's latter day work. He was really good, and unexpectedly so, in "Jack Reacher", for instance. "Elysium", "Iron Man 3", and "Pacific Rim" are all films I meant to watch but just went, "eh..." instead.

Karen Traviss writes the best Star Wars extended universe novels. I won't touch anything in the Star Wars universe without her name on it. Her Gears of War books are good as well.

OT: Have you seen Elysium? Hands down the best Sci-Fi movie in a while.
